You can type questions here

33:15
Is it mandatory for an international applicant to have their transcript evaluated by a credential evaluation service such as WES?

36:19
I am very interested in this program, currently my background is focus on the genetic/biology side rather than the data science part, however, I learned data science on my own. So for application review, which part of the area that will be focused on more. Or what kind of the ideal candidate that you are looking for to fit this program?

37:56
I am interested in genetics with medical applications, but the bulk of my research background is in plant genetics, would that hinder my application in any way?

41:24
All of my research experience has been in a wet lab setting and I plan to continue this in my graduate studies. Would It be possible to get some training in computational science without fully committing to the data science training area?

41:57
Is any graduate coursework waived for students with a masters degree and having completed graduate level courses?

43:59
Are GRE scores recommended/required?

44:13
No- we do not accept the GRE

45:21
Do we need to submit our transcripts of master degree to apply for fall2021 Phd program prior to course completion?

45:48
We will get to the questions as soon as the presentations are done

45:58
Thank you

59:55
What is the minimum number of patients needed to develop a diagnostic model for chronic disease in metabolic and cardiovascular diseases?

01:01:50
What role does gluten play in the developmente of IBD?

01:04:23
Regarding waiving coursework, students can place out of classes if they already have knowledge (e.g., statistics). In place, we encourage students to take more advanced courses.

01:05:25
* My question on the number of patients needed to develop a diagnostic model relates to machine learning.

01:05:58
Regarding transcripts, applications should include transcripts up through Fall 2020. For most schools, this won't include grades for Fall 2020.

01:07:52
Regarding experience in related fields (e.g., plant genetics), we welcome applications from applicants with experience in all related fields. Graduate school is a good time to pivot to related fields. We conduct a wholistic review of applications.

01:08:08
Following up for the transcript, does that have to be official transcript

01:08:20
or it can be just a pdf scan for review

01:08:47
For students with previous experience in the wet lab environment but now pursuing research in computational biology instead, does this program require them to conduct wet lab work as well?

01:09:57
Earlier it was mentioned that we can apply to have someone look over our application and constantly give us feedback and aid throughout the process. How do we apply for that?

01:10:47
Our program is flexible to allow students to get the training and experience they seek for their scientific and career goals. Students do not have to have prior experience in both experimental and computational science. Similarly, students don't have to engage in both experimental and computational research. Students can choose one or both.

01:11:36
For feedback and assistance in applications: that’s the “PhD Application Assistance and Advisory Program”, application details here: https://mountsinai.formstack.com/forms/phd_application_assistance_and_advisory_program

01:12:00
Flyer for that program is here: https://twitter.com/GradSchoolSinai/status/1310572510770065409?s=20

01:12:29
Regarding prior experience, we conduct a wholistic review of applications. We do not require any specific background.

01:12:35
Thanks Laura

01:13:27
As part of the holistic review, would research experience potentially balance out inconsistent undergrad course grades?

01:13:44
How can this program help one develop a clinical research program in a hospital that will be built starting 2024?

01:13:44
Students can choose the mix of experimental-computational research they like from 0-100%.

01:14:17
Yes, the transcripts must be official.

01:14:36
Do Canadian Transcripts need to go through WES?

01:14:50
With such a competitive pool of applicants, what is a great way to get our Resume/CV to stand out?

01:15:10
Can Canadian transcripts be sent directly to Mt. Sinai?

01:15:28
Transcripts don't need to be translated. We have the ability to translate them for comparison to typical US curriculum and 4.0 grade scale.

01:16:27
Specific questions about the logistics of sending transcripts can be directed to admissions@mssm.edu.

01:16:34
Thank you

01:17:20
Should applicants reach out to faculty they’re interested in working with? Or do faculty prefer to be connected with students after they have been accepted

01:18:14
Applicants are welcome to reach out to specific faculty. This is not required. During interviews, applicants will have opportunities to speak with four faculty -- typically the ones the applicant expresses interest in working with.

01:19:06
If I have achived a Master degree in US and I am an international student, do I have to take TOEFL test again for your school? Could you waive that?

01:19:35
Thank you students for your answers.

01:19:43
Thank you

01:19:43
If a required course was already taken in a graduate school, can one transfer the credits?

01:19:51
RE: standing out, we're looking for applicants who demonstrate the capability to advance biomedical science.

01:20:53
I have been away from academia lab for a few years, would industrial experience be good for this program?

01:21:53
I do not think so.

01:22:36
Do you have admission statistics for this research area?

01:23:31
Are physicians part of your research program? Do they play a role as PI for example?

01:24:09
I ask theses questions because of a future hospital being built in the Caribbean area.

01:24:14
Does securing external scholarship increase chance for acceptance?

01:24:50
with a small population of about 5,000 people.

01:25:10
If I have got a Master degree in US and I am a international student, do I have to take TOEFL test again? could it waived?

01:25:16
Can I submit more than 3 reference letters?

01:25:25
For the application assistance, there is a option to choose if one belongs to underrepresented group. Does minorities lie in that group?

We do encourage students to apply for fellowships

01:28:09
Thank you for the presentations!

01:28:22
Regarding physicians, we also have students who have medical training

01:28:49
Johnathan, can one conclude that doctoral training at Mount Sinai will allow one to develop the expertise to guide clinicians conducting clinical research e.g. in chronic diseases.

01:28:55
If I want to take stats course more than 3 credits, could I do in Phd carerr?

01:28:56
Thanks very much for the presentation.

01:29:06
Thank you very much

01:29:09
Thanks very much!

Thank you!

01:29:47
Thanks you!

01:30:21
yes

01:30:57
For certain skills that I have gained through the industry such as certificate that would not be able to show on my transcript, is there places I can attached these in my profile, or these can be mentioned in my PS.

01:32:34
We welcome industry experience.

01:32:41
Thank you for a wonderful webinar!

01:32:41
Thank you

01:32:46
Bye!

01:32:47
Thank you very much for the information

01:32:49
Thank you!

01:32:58
We recognize that applicants can get research experience in academia, industry, and government.

01:32:59
